Located in the small rural settlement of Torlundy

The tranquillity of the countryside, but close to Fort William.

Location of Airports Ferries and Travel Times to Torlundy House.

Our location is just 3 miles (5km) from the centre of Fort William, in the Western Highlands of Scotland. We strongly advise you have your own transport when staying at Torlundy House as the settlement has no local facilities. Without this you need to walk, use limited public transport or taxis.

The settlement of Torlundy is small and located on the main A82 road north of Fort William. Torlundy House is set in an area locally know as “Happy Valley”, about 1/3rd mile from the main A82 road. Just a couple of miles further up the road is the Nevis Range, the home of Mountain Bike fun, Skiing and the only enclosed Gondola in the UK which will whisk you up Aonach Mor. At the top of the Gondola ride is the Snow Goose centre with restaurant, bar and walks to two fantastic view points. Our other claim to fame is that Torlundy is also the location the world famous Inverlochy Castle Hotel.

Travel directions to help you find us are on our directions page and the link to the right. Our post code, PH33 6SN, when entered into your Satnav should get you to within sight of Torlundy House. We do have a sign on the road junction of the A82 and Happy Valley and once you turn into Happy Valley you just follow our signs.

To get the best from your time with us you really do need your own transport. A bus service takes you into Fort William or to the Nevis Range, however it does stop after about 19.00hrs. Torlundy does NOT have a shop, restaurant or pub. The nearest shop is at the Service Station about 1 mile from us. There is also a cash machine there. All restaurants, pubs, cafes, shops and other facilities are in Fort William, Caol, or Banavie. There is a good Taxi service between Torlundy and Fort William, we can call one for you if you wish. The fare is about £9.00 each way.

Airports, Ferry ports – approximations travel times from Torlundy

Here are some guide travel times using your own or a rental car. Please note that the times do not take into account road / traffic / weather conditions. Fort William and Torlundy, sit on the A82 Glasgow to Inverness road.  They also assume you do not stop to view the scenery or take refreshment. In the event this road is blocked by a traffic incident the diversions can be many miles so you need to take note of any roadside electronic information signs. You should also allow extra time if travelling in low light or night conditions and beware of deer on the road between Tyndrum and Glencoe. We advise against relying on the estimated arrival times given by Sat. Nav. and Google Maps as these can be somewhat inaccurate if you use the time given at your start point. They also assume you are familiar with the roads.

Glasgow Airport – 100 miles – allow at least 3 hours. You may need more if you intend to stop and view Loch Lomond.

Inverness Airport – 75 miles – allow at least 2.5 hours. You may need more if you intend to stop and view Loch Ness.

Edinburgh Airport – 130 miles – allow at least 3.5 hours. You may need more if you stop to view the scenery.

Aberdeen Airport – 150 miles – allow at least 3.75 hours, without stopping.

Mallaig Ferry – 45 miles – allow 1.25 hours, without stopping.

Uig on Skye – 123 miles – allow 3 hours, more in high season as the roads are always busy.

John O’Groats – 180 miles – allow 4.5 hours, more in high season.

Ullapool – 112 miles – allow at least 3 hours, more in high season.

It is useful to note that the A82 along with other trunk roads in the Highlands can be narrow in places and carry high volumes of traffic, especially in the main season of May to September.
