Torlundy – a rural settlement 3 miles from Fort William

Local Information

Torlundy is a small rural community situated 3 miles north of Fort William town centre on the main A82 road to Inverness. Most of the houses are situated on side roads away from the main road. All facilities such as restaurants and shops are situated in Fort William and the Greater Fort William villages of Caol, Banavie and Corpach. There is a regular but limited local bus service to and from Fort William, the Nevis Range and Spean Bridge, however to get the very best from your stay at Torlundy House you really do need your own transport. Taxis are more than happy to come to Torlundy. The settlement is also on the cycle route between the Nevis Range and Fort William. Please consider this when making a reservation if you do not have your own transport.

The Nevis Range of mountains

Fort William itself is situated at the south westerly end of the Great Glen, against the backdrop of the Nevis Range of mountains to include Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor. There are two main walking routes up Ben Nevis, one, the old pony trail, starts in Glen Nevis at the visitor centre and the other, the North Face route starts here at Torlundy. Aonach Mor has the skiing facilities, mountain gondola and mountain biking trails, which trek through Leanachan Forest as well as up the mountain. For those wanting an adrenalin rush, you can take your mountain bike on the gondola up the mountain and tackle the downhill tracks used by the UCI Mountain Biking events.

The Great Glen

The Great Glen runs from Fort William to Inverness, some 60 miles north east by road. The West Highland Way ends in Fort William and the Great Glen Way and East Highland Way start there as well. The town is also the start of the Road to the Isles. This is the A830 to Mallaig, taking in some of the most spectacular scenery not to be missed by any visitor.
